Get to know our Expo 2020 mascots, as they set out on a magical journey.

Meet siblings Rashid and Latifa as they embark on an exciting journey around Expo 2020. Rashid is a nine-year-old Emirati boy with a vivid imagination, a love for the environment and a strong spirit that helps him find the courage to fight for what’s right. Latifa is eight years old and loves a challenge! Her quick wit, resourcefulness and tenacity help her find a logical and grounded solution to any test, while her love of tech knows no bounds. The siblings’ adventures are led by Salama the Ghaf Tree, the voice of wisdom who has survived countless generations and witnessed the formation of a nation. Salama’s knowledge of the past, present and future enables her to guide Latifa and Rashid on their journey towards saving the future. Joined by Terra: the sustainability ambassador, Alif: the mobility ambassador and Opti: the opportunity ambassador, our trio will embark on a journey to unlock the three secrets hidden within Expo’s three pavilions. But they’ll have to be careful! Vengeful Mr Scrap, who’s vowed to destroy any symbol of sustainability, and his robot minion Floppy are on the lookout, attempting to overpower Salama to ensure that Expo 2020 will never happen.

Get to know our Expo heroes, as well as their guardians and vengeful foes.

Salama

A beacon of life against the barren desert, Salama, the wise and powerful Ghaf tree, has been a place of refuge for travellers for countless years. Her branches bore witness to the birth of the UAE and now she must pass her knowledge on to the next generation.

Rashid

Nine-year-old Rashid may have his head in the clouds, but when it comes to saving the environment, there’s no one more grounded. He loves to be amongst nature, and adores family stories, having memorised tales that have been passed down through the generations.

Latifa

If you think eight years old is too young to make a difference, you clearly haven’t met Latifa. She's passionate about science and technology, doesn’t believe in the word ‘impossible’ and will never accept ‘no’ for an answer.

Terra

The sharpest and smartest of the guardians, you definitely don’t want to get on Terra’s bad side – especially when she turns invisible. Fierce and loyal, Terra is highly protective of nature and keeps its deepest secrets.

Alif

Alif is definitely the leader of the guardians – or at least he thinks so. This shapeshifting robot will always get you where you need to go, whether you’re digging to the core of the Earth or surfing stardust on cosmic waves.

Opti

Wherever this friendly robot’s little wheels take him, opportunity and hope follow closely behind. But don’t be fooled by his diminutive stature, because laying in his core is a portal through time and space.

Mr Scrap

Once celebrated for his coal-chewing, gas-guzzling and smoke-spewing machine, Mr Scrap is fuelled by rage as the world has moved towards sustainability. He has vowed to destroy any symbol of sustainability, including Expo 2020.

Floppy

Mr Scrap’s loyal sidekick, Floppy is a robot minion with a few loose bolts and a sputtering engine. They’ve been together for ages, and no one is more loyal than Floppy, but as Mr Scrap becomes more evil, will Floppy stay by his side?
