A fountain with a refreshing message

Water is a precious resource for which Emiratis have long been profoundly grateful. So why not tell it how we feel? With his fanciful drinking fountain "Letter to Water", Sharjah-based artist Nasir Nasrallah has done just that, adding a powerful message about sustainability and a dash of fun. The three fountains featured here are based on the UAE’s distinctive Emirates Post mailboxes, each of them displaying Nasrallah’s personal “letter” in one of three languages: English, Arabic and braille. The Letter to Water drinking fountain installation features three mailbox-shaped water fountains arranged in a circle, with each one facing outward. The fountains come in three primary colours and perch on steel poles of different heights. Their design is reminiscent of the distinctive Emirates Post mailboxes, with rounded tops and large horizontal slots.
