Preserving our Urban Heritage

The Best Practice Area speaker’s corner seeks to provide a platform for the exchange of experiences from all around the world, to inspire and crowdsource solutions to our greatest challenges. Join us in this session during Urban & Rural Development Week to hear from the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme (AKHCP) and learn more about their work on urban regeneration projects in historic areas that spur social, economic and cultural development. Join us for a discussion with Mr. Tausif Ahmed (CEO, Aga Khan Cultural Service - Pakistan) and Mr. Kamran Lashari (Director, Walled City of Lahore Authority) as they share their experience of best practices in the conservation of urban and rural spaces. AKHCP’s central objective is to improve the lives of the inhabitants of these historic areas while promoting models that will sustain these improvements. The Programme has shown how the creation of parks and gardens, conservation of landmark buildings, improvements to the urban fabric and the revitalisation of cultural heritage can provide a springboard for social development.
