As a people who have thrived amid the desert’s unforgiving sands, Kuwaitis understand the importance of conserving natural resources. The Kuwait Pavilion at Expo 2020 shares this ethos with the world, focusing on all aspects of sustainability – from efficient new transport networks to futuristic smart homes.

The pavilion’s architecture references the region’s glowing sand and sun, while the towering central funnel is a nod to Kuwait City’s distinctive conical water towers. Journey inside to explore reimagined cities, interactive data banks and a one-of-a-kind “Life Spring” that offers a dazzling visualisation of Kuwait’s sustainable future.

Influenced by the iconic shapes of the nation’s water towers, sun and sand, the Kuwait Pavilion is a grand golden structure, made of countless triangles joined in a geometric design with a funnel-like canopy overhead.

As part of the 2015 inaugral UAE National Sports Day, 2,481 participants set a new Guinness World Record for the largest Jiu-jitsu lesson in Abu Dhabi. Along with Brazilian help, EXPO 2020 intends to beat that record. Witness this martial arts spectacle.

As the caretakers of Earth’s mightiest waterway, the epic Amazon River, Brazilians have a unique appreciation of the beauty, power and importance of our shared water resources. Now, with the meditative Brazil Pavilion, they’ve brought an authentic, multisensory Amazonian experience to the Dubai desert. Strikingly fashioned from tensile steel and white fabric, the pavilion recreates the sights, sounds and even aromas of the Amazon basin, complete with a thin flood of water in the main exhibit area and immersive projections of the rainforest all around. And don’t worry: If you’d rather not get your feet wet, boots will be provided.

The Brazil Pavilion is an immense, shallow rectangular pool carved with gentle curves. A boxy, 18-metre-high steel structure stretched with translucent, white fabric panels seems to float over the pool on columns, referencing Brazil’s riverside stilt houses.

Laugh the night away with some of South Africa’s finest comedians: Marc Lottering has performed around the world and won multiple awards for his comedy acting and stand-up; Tumi Morake is an award-winning comedian, actress, writer and producer who has been performing since 2006, earning her the title of South Africa’s First Lady of Comedy; and Emmy-nominated Loyso Gola has found critical acclaim for his acts, as well as performing the first Netflix stand-up special from Africa. Conveniently located next to the recently completed Expo 2020 metro station, with striking views of the magnificent domed Al Wasl Plaza, the DEC offers 45,000 square metres of customisable event space, 14 exhibition and multi-use halls, on-site catering, and best-in-class audio-visual resources.


A light geometric pattern decorates the DEC’s extraordinarily broad front façade, which features a giant overhanging arch over the entrance to the central plaza area, as well as sloped surfaces that seem to angle away from the entrance like a pair of wings
