Marking Human Rights Day, the Dignified Storytelling Forum is a high-level forum bringing together stakeholders, partners, policymakers and practitioners within the field of storytelling to discuss the importance of dignified storytelling in policy and practice, and its impact on individuals, organisations and countries. The Forum presents an  opportunity to affirm the Dignified Storytelling Principles, committing to them at all levels through the Dignified Storytelling Pledge.

Expo 2020 connects minds from around the globe. These connections are not limited to the pavilions and parks, but also extend to the vast Dubai Exhibition Centre: a new, state-of-the-art venue for conferences, concerts and more. 

Conveniently located next to the recently completed Expo 2020 metro station, with striking views of the magnificent domed Al Wasl Plaza, the DEC offers 45,000 square metres of customisable event space, 14 exhibition and multi-use halls, on-site catering, and best-in-class audio-visual resources.

Human Rights Day aims to ensure human dignity through the guarantee of opportunity and hope for all. It is a celebration that focuses on facilitating access to service provision and the basic rights of every individual. Co-curated with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Human Rights Day at Expo 2020 Dubai will convene experts, thought leaders, youth, policymakers, innovators and changemakers to discuss best practices and success stories in taking a rights-based approach to the Sustainable Development Goals, while considering what we can all do to supercharge a better 2030 for people and the planet.

Expo Beats: World Beats - Day 1

Expo Beats is an all-day festival that celebrates traditional and contemporary music, dance and spoken word, encouraging highly visual and original collaborative moments woven throughout.

The Beats Festival series is focused on integrating artists from Expo participating countries across six festivals, generating meaning-making and cross-national collaboration.

Visitors can enjoy performances that enhance collaboration and solidarity between nations, local and international performers in a celebration that that brings people together and connects global communities.

In partnership with the Women's Pavilion, Ewaa - the Abu Dhabi Centre for Sheltering and Humanitarian Care - will mark Human Rights Day 2021 with a selection of special programming. Events will include a keynote speech by HE Sarah Shuhail, Director General of Ewaa, a panel discussion on Ewaa as a model for enforcing equality and promoting Human Rights, and a slam poetry session with Emirati poet Salem Al Attas.

The Whanganui River is so important to New Zealand’s Maori people that in 2017, it was granted a special legal identity, giving it the rights of a citizen. Now, the New Zealand Pavilion offers a sweeping cultural tour narrated by the Whanganui River itself.

With a design inspired by the Maori tradition of hand-crafting containers to safeguard items of value, the pavilion leads you on a journey of conservation where the greatest treasure to be protected is our natural world. Immerse yourself in the river’s story, deepen the experience with the pavilion’s web-based app, and journey through a 10-metre-high “vertical river” of water droplets.


New Zealand

The New Zealand Pavilion features a tall box clad in titanic wavy panels of chainmail-like architectural mesh called Kaynemaile. Its flexible façade pulses to evoke a living building and sits on a base crafted from New Zealand Abodo eco-timber. The ground floor’s wooden exterior lends a warm feel to the modernist design, welcoming visitors through a small gap beneath the mammoth Kaynemaile panels.
