As the principal investing arm of the government of Dubai, the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) manages a staggering array of commercial companies and investments that support the city’s dynamic economy. Learn about the ICD’s mission to create long-term value with a focus on sustainability, education and innovation at its open-air pavilion, a maze-like oasis of lawns and courtyards sheltered by tall woven walls that curve like windswept sand dunes. Take a walk through the winding structure while scanning embedded digital screens that reveal how the ICD is helping Dubai continue to thrive and grow as a learning and empowered society. 

The pavilion first appears as a series of organic, earth-toned shapes three to four metres in height. Enter next to a small waterfall to find a calming yet adventurous space. A stone path lined with grassy green lawns winds between woven “dunes,” which feature embedded digital screens revealing how ICD is helping Dubai continue to thrive and grow as a learning and empowered society.

The Palestine Pavilion at Expo 2020 offers an innovative way to experience this historic land. With imaginative exhibits that individually engage each of the five senses, the pavilion allows visitors to truly experience Palestine in full.

Beginning with an elevator ride that doubles as an immersive simulation of rising high above the city of Jerusalem, Palestine’s exposition takes you on an incredible cultural tour. See the sights of Palestine, inhale its aromas and taste its delicious cuisine. Then, don a virtual-reality headset and feel the whole experience come together.

A long, tall, rectangular building with rounded corners, the majority of the Palestine Pavilion is wrapped in a perforated mesh screen decorated with charming line drawings of the city of Jerusalem and large swaths of decorative Arabic script. The first floor of the structure is covered in vertical strips of deep brown cladding, interspersed with generous entryways.

The Fijian word “bula” is a versatile term that conjures a friendly spirit of happiness and good fortune. At the Fiji Pavilion, you can learn this island paradise’s blissful secrets on a tour of its seven steps to becoming a “bulannaire” – one who is rich in happiness.

The pavilion’s wealth of exhibits include relaxing tropical hammocks and gorgeous views of Fiji, but it’s not all smiles: the low-lying archipelago is already threatened by climate change, through rising sea levels and dying coral reefs. Journey through a “sunken island”, where you can learn about the nation’s looming challenges and its inspiring climate leadership.

The magnificent, snow-capped Swiss Alps are renowned for their stunning natural majesty. Now, at Expo 2020, you can have your own breathtaking alpine experience – no climbing boots or ice axe required. The Switzerland Pavilion offers a simulated hike through the country’s mountains, traversing a dense sea of fog. After cresting the spectacular summit, you’ll reach an enchanting city of opportunities where you can explore Swiss innovation, take in traditional performances and sample mouth-watering Swiss chocolate.

The Switzerland Pavilion's bold, funnel-shaped mirror façade reflects the ground in front of the pavilion: a massive red carpet decorated with a white Swiss cross. The polygonal mirror panels converge at a  doorway in the lower left of the building, crafted from scaffolding and textiles inspired by Bedouin tents.
