This unique event offers three race lengths – 3km, 5km, or 10km – for participants of all abilities, with each race taking an incredible route past some of Expo’s most iconic pavilions and architecture in the Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity districts.

During the course of the pandemic, the world has experienced a period of ambiguity concerning our physical, mental and financial futures. These uncertainties caused by an “unknown” virus also brought about a new wave of social stigmas, causing many echelles of society to be negatively stereotyped and discriminated against with a wave on misinformation across various media platforms.

In order to transcend beyond these pressures, many turned to mental health exercises like mindfulness, using the practice as a buffer to counter pandemic related distress. We can cultivate mindfulness by giving attention to our present moment and thoughts as it rewires our minds to adopt more compassionate and empathetic responses to manifest the world we want, a world that values Truth Over Headlines. 

Marking Health and Wellness week at Expo 2020 Dubai, Dignified Storytelling presents “Unlocking the Mind” to help participants revisit the significance of mental health in order to achieve optimal physical health during and beyond the pandemic. Through a series of academic talks and a guided meditation session, we will learn how to rewire our thought processes.

Join us as we hear from Omar Shehadeh, Chief International Participants Officer at Expo 2020 Dubai who will touch on the stigmas created during the the pandemic and the role of media in mitigating or fuelling these threats. We will then hear from Dr. Reem Al Gurg, Director of Strategy and Institutional Excellence at MBRU, as she talks about the importance of academia and public awareness regarding stigmas created by the pandemic. The session continues with Edyta Satchell, founder and CEO Satchelle Global Wellness and Christine Kritzas, psychologist and Education Director of Lighthouse Arabia, who will shed light on the significance of mindsets and nutrition. Finally, Abeer Ayash, Wellness Professional from Home of Wellness will take us through a guided meditation session to help the audience refresh their minds.

As a vital component of overall wellness, fundamental to our ability to think, act, react, and enjoy life, it is critical we understand the factors that contribute to mental wellbeing.

The physical isolation enforced by the pandemic along with uncertainty about the future have meant challenging times for many people around the world. Combined with the stressors of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, social and economic transformations would seem to be impacting individual happiness and mental wellbeing as never before.

According to the WHO, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Yet the true prevalence of mental health disorders globally remains poorly understood. Moreover, stigma and discrimination can result in a lack of access to care and services. What are the factors that contribute to a state of wellbeing? How can we ensure that they are accessible to everyone on the planet? Can technology help us?

Inspired by British physicist Stephen Hawking, who challenged humanity to ponder how we might express ourselves to alien civilisations, the UK Pavilion invites visitors to contribute to a unique linguistic experiment. While exploring this cone-shaped structure, which showcases the UK’s contributions to space science and artificial intelligence, you can add your own words to the pavilion’s neural network. A language-generating algorithm then processes these entries into an ever-changing “poem” that will be displayed on the pavilion’s LED façade, providing an inspiring collective message to Expo 2020, our planet and maybe even worlds beyond.

The awe-inspiring UK Pavilion is an epic, 20-metre-tall, cone-shaped structure compiled of rows of horizontal timber slats that stretch forward to create a circular form. The end of each slat houses a LED panel that emits phrases that link to form an ever-changing interstellar message crafted by artificial intelligence and Expo visitors.

The Whanganui River is so important to New Zealand’s Maori people that in 2017, it was granted a special legal identity, giving it the rights of a citizen. Now, the New Zealand Pavilion offers a sweeping cultural tour narrated by the Whanganui River itself.

With a design inspired by the Maori tradition of hand-crafting containers to safeguard items of value, the pavilion leads you on a journey of conservation where the greatest treasure to be protected is our natural world. Immerse yourself in the river’s story, deepen the experience with the pavilion’s web-based app, and journey through a 10-metre-high “vertical river” of water droplets.


New Zealand

The New Zealand Pavilion features a tall box clad in titanic wavy panels of chainmail-like architectural mesh called Kaynemaile. Its flexible façade pulses to evoke a living building and sits on a base crafted from New Zealand Abodo eco-timber. The ground floor’s wooden exterior lends a warm feel to the modernist design, welcoming visitors through a small gap beneath the mammoth Kaynemaile panels.

The Israel Pavilion reflects the region’s spirit of openness with an architectural design that features no walls or borders. Day and night, the pavilion dazzles with its seven towering “Gates to the Future”, which feature dynamic floor-to-ceiling LED screens. From the wide entryway, you’ll climb an imaginative desert slope – symbolising the landscape that Israel and the Arabian Gulf region share – on your way to a wealth of experiences. Put on a pair of virtual reality (VR) goggles for a camera tour, catch the immersive “Let’s Connect” audio-visual show and don’t forget to snap a picture in the augmented reality-enhanced photo zone.

Complementing its theme of openness and cultural exchange, the Israel Pavilion at Expo 2020 features an airy design composed of seven tall, square-shaped gates that reach over a sandy desert slope. These thin, closely-spaced gates feature bright LED screens on the inside and a combination of Hebrew and Arabic inscriptions on the outside.
