In February 1968, this nation's founding fathers met under a desert tent and shared an idea that would turn into something truly great: the United Arab Emirates. Animated by this spirit of collaboration, The Good Place by Expo Live is an exhibition space dedicated to showcasing human potential and those who work to advance it – through the Expo Live innovation and partnership programme and beyond.

With a design inspired by the tent where the UAE was conceived, the pavilion showcases social innovations conceived to improve our lives. Come and meet ordinary people doing extraordinary things – and be inspired to join our global community.

Designed by renowned Emirati architect Ahmad Abdulrahman Bukhash, The Good Place’s structure expands the Bedouin tent shape into an elegant white canopy, folded with seven origami-like angles on each side to join at a tall peak. The tent seems to float over a clean, glass box.

Uganda’s primeval mountain forests are places of deep mystery and rich legend, home to mighty silverback gorillas and dense thickets of vines and roots. The Uganda Pavilion cuts a perfect walking trail through these famous landscapes, offering visitors a unique chance to explore the nation’s forests, cultures, economic opportunities and more. “Hike” between tall simulated trees, immerse yourself in digital wildlife exhibits and journey into Uganda’s five ancestral kingdoms.

Uganda - United Arab Emirates Convention and Exhibition

Studies have shown that women are discouraged from, or less interested in, entering the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) from a young age. According to the Pew Research Centre, women remain underrepresented in engineering, as well as both computer and physical sciences, which are often considered male-dominated fields. United Nations data shows that less than 30% of scientific researchers worldwide are women. 

To celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, true stories of females leading the way in scientific fields are highlighted to break down barriers and encourage more women and girls to pursue careers in STEM. Scientists from around the world share their personal perspectives and journeys of success, focussing on female empowerment and promoting the roles of women in science.

Under the title “New Perspectives”, the Women’s World Majlis programme invites you to recognise a fundamental principle: when women thrive, humanity thrives.

The programme highlights the impact women have made on society and shines a light on their often forgotten contributions. By shifting perspectives, we embrace the infinite approaches to a more balanced world.

A common vision for a unique collaboration; sustainable development goals and aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous world cannot be achieved without gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Sharing this vision, Expo 2020 Dubai and Cartier celebrate women changemakers around the globe, asserting our conviction that innovative collaboration between the private sector, civil society and committed individuals is the pathway to meaningful change.

Launched in 2016, the inaugural GBF LATAM explored possible new synergies beyond its traditional export markets of the USA, Europe and China, focussing on potential connections between businesses in Dubai and the region. In the context of economic growth declining since 2010 (and actually going negative in 2016), Latin America’s leading economies searched for additional growth drivers at home and business partners who shared their ambition to be part of a new era of globalisation.

2018’s GBF continued that exploration, this time in the context of a pick-up of economic growth in 2017 and 2018. Governments and businesses across Latin America were taking bold steps to bring new dynamism to the private sector, dismantling obstacles to trade within Latin America and investigating new markets in order to build on growth. Potential synergies with Dubai, in areas such as agriculture and renewable energy, tourism, innovation and technology and in trade issues relating to logistics and distribution, were identified.

In 2020, Covid changed Latin America’s trajectory. The green shoots of economic recovery were trampled as closed borders and lockdowns hit the region’s economies harder than anywhere else in the world. In 2021, the region is still fighting to contain Covid and to revive their battered economies.

The Covid-19 pandemic shone a spotlight on longer-term structural problems such as income inequality and bureaucracy that have held back growth in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) economies for decades. There is now a strong impetus for reform that will empower people from across society to achieve their commercial goals, helping to rebuild economies post-Covid in a more sustainable way.

Expo 2020 connects minds from around the globe. These connections are not limited to the pavilions and parks, but also extend to the vast Dubai Exhibition Centre: a new, state-of-the-art venue for conferences, concerts and more. 

Conveniently located next to the recently completed Expo 2020 metro station, with striking views of the magnificent domed Al Wasl Plaza, the DEC offers 45,000 square metres of customisable event space, 14 exhibition and multi-use halls, on-site catering, and best-in-class audio-visual resources.
