MENASA - Emirati Design Platform offers visitors an overview of the UAE’s vibrant artisan culture. Its bespoke collections are created with top local and international designers and explore seven Emirati “Craft Stories”: safeefa, clay, talli, sadu, coffee making, Gargour making and pearl diving. Each story leads you through the processes involved in crafting the design collections. The programme’s space hosts design collections to stimulate and inspire. Many of the one-of-a-kind pieces on display are also available to take home, with each purchase helping to sustain the local design ecosystem.

Aiming to identify, curate, promote and present Emirati design and crafts through exclusive design collections and curated content, MENASA provides a unique opportunity to explore traditional Emirati crafts through contemporary design, innovative materials and advanced processes. The platform features exciting design collaborations between over 40 local and international designers from 11 countries.

The archipelago of Comoros, off Africa’s east coast, is known for its spices and aromas: vanilla, clove, and ylang-ylang. At the Comoros Pavilion, you’ll get a fragrant tour of the islands’ “garden of marvels”, with an emphasis on sustainability.

According to Comorian legend, Mount Karthala erupted up from the ocean floor when King Solomon’s courier accidentally dropped the Queen of Sheba’s ring into the sea. As you begin your journey through the Comoros Pavilion, you’ll receive your own recycled-plastic ring that you can later toss into the Karthala crater as a symbol of your commitment to sustainability.

The Mexico Pavilion takes this graceful creature and a rainbow of iconic Mexican flowers, as inspiration for a symbolic and vivid presentation of the country’s flourishing creativity and innovation. Explore rich multimedia displays that highlight how the act of pollination fosters exciting new growth in nature, gastronomy and business. Each year, residents of Peru’s Quehue District re-weave Q’Eswachaka, the last of the Incan rope bridges, in a custom that goes back 600 years. Now, at the Peru Pavilion, you can witness this ancient tradition in real time, as part of a wide-ranging showcase of Peru’s timeless culture. The pavilion’s elegant, loom-like exterior is a reference to Peruvian traditional woven crafts but, from nutrient-rich superfoods to staggering ancient ruins, there’s much to explore from one of the world’s most biodiverse nations.

The Peru Pavilion is a large rectangular structure wrapped in a woven-looking façade, like a vibrantly coloured traditional blanket draped over a grand table. This woven element, which is composed of layered, multi-coloured vertical lines, surrounds the entire pavilion, curving up on the bottom left side to reveal an open, shaded courtyard and performance space. On the lower right, the pavilion’s tall entryway slices through the woven exterior and plunges down a glowing tunnel.
