The Holy See Pavilion celebrates open communication between interreligious and diplomatic groups to break down walls that separate us. Discover a showcase of vividly illustrated illuminated manuscripts and, if you look up, a beautiful recreation of one of the Holy See’s most iconic treasures: Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling fresco inside St Peter’s Basilica.

Your journey through the pavilion will cover Guinea’s rich history and promising future through the lens of water, from ancient tribal empires to modern hydroelectric opportunities. Hear Guinea’s sonic landscape at the sound panel, learn about its biodiversity and cultural traditions and discover the striking Lady of Mali rock formation through an interactive waterfall projection.

Drawing on digital displays, artworks, documentary films and more, the Bahamas Pavilion explores how the nation’s citizens are working to solve the urgent issue of climate change. During the Islamic Golden Age, the rihla was a popular Arabic literary form that chronicled not only a physical journey but a personal voyage toward spiritual discovery. The Algeria Pavilion brings this genre to Expo 2020 for a whole new generation to enjoy, offering a rihla-inspired tour through the North African nation’s heritage. The journey begins in the casbah-like plaza outside, leading visitors through a gateway to the future and into a multi-stage exhibition on Algeria’s cultural and environmental riches. Take in a high-definition film, explore the country’s desert sights and sounds, and conclude with a cup of Algerian mint tea.

Algeria pavilion’s entrance evokes a grand gateway made up of two blockish bronze-coloured façades cut with a triangular geometric pattern. One of these façades sits slightly ahead of the other and overlaps it across the top, creating the three-dimensional gateway effect.

With a striking design that takes inspiration from the natural world and strives to protect it as well, the Azerbaijan Pavilion invites visitors on a journey to discover how each of us can pitch in to restore balance to the planet.

Outside the pavilion, a vast leaf-shaped solar roof harnesses the sun’s rays, while the stylised wooden “tree” shelters a performance stage and authentic Azerbaijani garden below. Inside, dynamic video screens on the floor will guide your path as you plant “seeds for the future”, using a unique card chosen at the pavilion’s entrance to power a variety of interactive, thought-provoking exhibits.

The Azerbaijan Pavilion’s central column takes the shape of a stylised tree trunk, with massive wooden “branches” that extend upwards to cradle its top level, as an elevated walkway hugs its base. The pavilion is sheltered by a vast, leaf-shaped canopy.

In 2018, 15 international teams of university students met for the first Solar Decathlon Middle East, a competition – organised Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) – to build the solar-powered home of tomorrow. Explore Team Virginia Tech’s winning “FutureHAUS Dubai”, as well as other smart designs at the DEWA Pavilion. Constructed from prefabricated “cartridges”, FutureHAUS Dubai thrives fully off the grid. From the solar roof to the temperature-buffering entryway, the home was designed to maximise efficiency and to provide plenty of futuristic touches. This compact eco-marvel gives visitors a peek at how we may live in the future.

FutureHAUS Dubai takes shape as a simple, white rectangle constructed from nine structural cartridges with a slightly overhanging roof. As well as maximising efficiency it contains plenty of futuristic touches, including a drone-delivery hatch and a weight-measuring bathroom floor.
