An exciting new act in Côte d’Ivoire’s story is underway: a wave of economic growth dubbed “the second Ivorian miracle”. For a show this exciting, who wouldn’t want to go behind the scenes? The Côte d’Ivoire Pavilion at Expo 2020 lets you do just that, welcoming you to an imaginative “movie set” as the West African nation films its emergence onto the global stage.

On entering the pavilion, you’ll be given an exclusive VIP pass to its three “sets” that explore Côte d’Ivoire’s cocoa production, burgeoning fashion industry, start-up culture and more. Art and graphics inspired by the region’s tribes lend the pavilion an unmistakable authenticity, while movie-making props and film strips complete the cinematic feel.

Its bespoke collections are created with top local and international designers and explore seven Emirati “Craft Stories”: safeefa, clay, talli, sadu, coffee making, Gargour making and pearl diving. Each story leads you through the processes involved in crafting the design collections. The programme’s space hosts design collections to stimulate and inspire. Many of the one-of-a-kind pieces on display are also available to take home, with each purchase helping to sustain the local design ecosystem.

Aiming to identify, curate, promote and present Emirati design and crafts through exclusive design collections and curated content, MENASA provides a unique opportunity to explore traditional Emirati crafts through contemporary design, innovative materials and advanced processes. For thousands of years, Angola’s Chokwe people have preserved their cultural wisdom through looping Sona drawings, in which special symbols are sketched into the sand and passed down through generations. The Angola Pavilion at Expo 2020 pays homage to this ancient tradition of knowledge sharing, connecting it with the nation’s emerging innovation industry.
