Join us in celebrating Malawi's National Day at Expo 2020

Nicknamed the “Warm Heart of Africa” for the friendliness of its people, Malawi is a nation full of opportunity. It’s perfectly fitting, then, that the Malawi Pavilion at Expo takes shape around the story of a young rural child who is given the right tools to thrive. Visitors can explore daily life in Malawi, learn about the country’s rich culture and beautiful beaches, and even get in a match of “bawo”, a traditional Malawian board game.

From farm to plate, the food value chain is an integral part of society, providing income and livelihoods for billions. The ways in which we currently cultivate food by means of deforestation and food waste however, are all contributing adversely to climate change. Expo will serve as a platform to bring together all stakeholders in various value chains to spotlight localized solutions to food, nutrition and farming challenges. The programme will explore food sustainably, climate-friendly agriculture and other practices that work in harmony with the environment.

“Smart living, smart thinking, smart feelings”, is the mantra at the Ukraine Pavilion, where this storied Eastern European nation presents its thriving technology sector, as well as its deep cultural heritage. Experience Ukrainian innovations, from an e-bike that can travel 380 kilometres on a single charge to solar blinds that generate electricity, inside a space-age four-storey pavilion. Join a seminar to explore how to build a more balanced world. Then relax in a lush indoor garden, take in a fashion show or sample Ukrainian cuisine.

The Ukraine pavilion welcomes visitors with a commanding, four-storey steel structure of linked polygonal shapes that evokes a futuristic spacecraft. The 15-metre-tall building is covered entirely in reflective glass, with giant banks of floor-to-ceiling windows that angle outward to create a faceted, jewel-like look. Sand-coloured bands of geometric-patterned plasterwork anchor the structure, mark the space between floors, and crown the handsome building.
