The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) is an institute that develops necessary mechanisms for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries to eliminate barriers to trade and facilitate conformity assessment schemes for the purpose of expediting exchange of goods among Member States. Organized annually, the main objective of this event is to emphasize the basic pillars of 'halal' quality infrastructure through OIC/SMIIC business standards and its contribution to the OIC Member States.

At Expo 2020, sustainability is an urgent, attainable reality, and Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion is the proof. Both immersive exhibition space and exemplar of environmental self-sufficiency, Terra is a pioneering piece of architecture that pushes the limits of renewable design.

The pavilion’s 130-metre-wide solar canopy – so vast that you could park 10 city buses head-to-tail atop it – converts sunshine into electricity for the exhibits below. Artfully funnelled natural light and local plant species, together with technologies that can reduce water consumption by 75 per cent, show the way to a sustainable future.

Its pavilion captures this harmonious spirit with a journey from the darkness of ignorance to the vibrant colour of understanding.

Take a voyage of cultural learning, through bold questions and thought-provoking facts to address misconceptions about Islam. Begin at the “Iqra!” (Arabic for “Read ”) pillar and watch your understanding grow as you make your way to the multicoloured “Ummah” (or “community”) installation on great achievements in the Muslim world.
