Urban and Rural Development

Whether in rural or urban settings, access to safe and affordable living conditions is a fundamental right. With over 70 per cent of the world’s population due to live in cities by 2050, and over a billion already living in informal settlements, it is more important than ever to build resilient and sustainable habitats supported by networks of inclusive infrastructure and services. Cities will remain centres of activity, attracting billions of new dwellers as the world’s urban population is expected to grow by 3 billion additional citizens by 2050. The immense demands this will put on existing and new infrastructure, as 60 per cent of the area expected to be urban by 2030 has not yet been built is staggering. Sound development and urban management is more crucial than ever for countries to advance on the path towards sustainable development. The Urban and Rural Development Business Forum will highlight and showcase business opportunities, cutting-edge technologies and progress achieved by the UAE, International Participants and Expo Partners invested in the Urban and Rural Development sector. The forum will also be an opportunity for partners to have meaningful conversations that foster knowledge transfer. This will include exploring ways of setting an effective global response that includes the collaborative efforts of governments, the private sector and civil society.
