Expo 2020’s three Portals are monumental gateways that blend ancient heritage and futuristic technology. Conceived by celebrated architect Asif Khan, these immense structures feature a geometric motif based on centuries-old mashrabiya screen designs. Look closer, and you’ll see that each portal’s 21-metre-high walls are woven from one of the most technologically advanced materials: carbon fibre, three times stronger than steel and used in supercars and rockets.
