It’s a tale as old as innovation itself: a great idea strikes so suddenly that it sends you scrambling to jot it down before the inspiration disappears. With the Young Innovators programme, Expo 2020 Dubai has helped schoolchildren across the UAE to capture this creative spark. It all began, fittingly, on the back of a napkin, where hundreds of students have sketched ideas for solutions to global challenges. From there, Expo has connected these young creators with professionals to build 3D-printed prototypes.

School students were invited to tap into their circles of empathy and unleash their creativity to come up with innovative solutions to everyday challenges, starting with a single napkin sketch.

Guided by Themes

The students' innovations were guided by four overarching themes - themselves linked to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals - The Planet, Smart Health, Future Mobility and Work and Play.

The Planet

It takes fresh thinking to solve the challenges around sustainability such as green energy sources and plastic pollution. Discover brilliant ideas ranging from solar powered trees to space junk collectors.

Future Mobility

The road ahead looks bright with solutions to the movement of people, goods, services and data. Navigate the wonderful innovations ranging from a teleporter to devices that clear fog from the road to keep motorists safe.

The incredible innovations on display range from small-scale solutions to everyday problems, such as a robot to assist the elderly, to improvements for large-scale industries, such as eco brick dispensers and ocean purifying pods!

The Expo School Programme team worked with 3D printing engineers and digital animators to bring 298 of these innovations from napkins to life in an exhibition that celebrates young people and the outstanding ideas that they have created.
