The Palestine Pavilion at Expo 2020 offers an innovative way to experience this historic land. With imaginative exhibits that individually engage each of the five senses, the pavilion allows visitors to truly experience Palestine in full.

Beginning with an elevator ride that doubles as an immersive simulation of rising high above the city of Jerusalem, Palestine’s exposition takes you on an incredible cultural tour. See the sights of Palestine, inhale its aromas and taste its delicious cuisine. Then, don a virtual-reality headset and feel the whole experience come together.

A long, tall, rectangular building with rounded corners, the majority of the Palestine Pavilion is wrapped in a perforated mesh screen decorated with charming line drawings of the city of Jerusalem and large swaths of decorative Arabic script. The first floor of the structure is covered in vertical strips of deep brown cladding, interspersed with generous entryways.

As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia opens itself to the world, its contribution to Expo 2020 mirrors the nation’s grand ambitions. Boasting a vast façade that covers the area of two football pitches, the Saudi Arabia Pavilion takes the form of an opening window that soars into the sky bearing messages of inspiration.

Your Saudi experience begins in the open plaza under the pavilion, where the giant screen above and LEDs below combine to create a dazzling light show. Next, the “Heritage Path” escalator will transport you to immersive exhibits – and you can end your journey with refreshments and shopping in the pavilion’s scenic palm garden.

The monumental Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion is a mirrored slab that extends up diagonally from the ground, resembling a giant window opening toward the sky. The immense structure soars six storeys into the air and covers more than 13,000 square metres, or the area of two football pitches. The sides of the pavilion feature a decorative motif of grey horizontal lines like layered metal, while its vast underbelly — which shades an enormous plaza — is mirrored and smooth.

The magnificent, snow-capped Swiss Alps are renowned for their stunning natural majesty. Now, at Expo 2020, you can have your own breathtaking alpine experience – no climbing boots or ice axe required. The Switzerland Pavilion offers a simulated hike through the country’s mountains, traversing a dense sea of fog. After cresting the spectacular summit, you’ll reach an enchanting city of opportunities where you can explore Swiss innovation, take in traditional performances and sample mouth-watering Swiss chocolate.

The Switzerland Pavilion's bold, funnel-shaped mirror façade reflects the ground in front of the pavilion: a massive red carpet decorated with a white Swiss cross. The polygonal mirror panels converge at a  doorway in the lower left of the building, crafted from scaffolding and textiles inspired by Bedouin tents.

The South East Asian nation of Timor-Leste weaves its culture into every thread of its vibrant, traditional tais fabrics. Each district boasts its own tais patterns, which are dyed using local plants and given as a gift of friendship. Timor-Leste extends that fellowship to you at its Expo 2020 pavilion, which offers beautiful displays of tais and authentic wood carvings, as well as inviting aromas of native spices and local coffee. The pavilion also recreates a bird-like Timor totem house, where you can watch videos spotlighting the resilient working families that power this young nation and add your own thread to their tais.

Diminutive Guinea-Bissau features an array of peoples, cultures, landscapes and wildlife packed into a single West African nation. Its pavilion skips from the protected nature preserve of its tropical Bijagos Islands, where sacred saltwater hippos and grey parrots thrive, to the dusty grandeur of Portuguese colonial-era buildings in friendly capital Bissau without missing a beat.

In Chinese culture, the lantern symbolises happiness and good fortune and now, the country is casting this favourable light over Expo 2020. The lantern-shaped China Pavilion offers an illuminating historical tour of Chinese innovation, including a monumental “moveable type” wall that transforms at night into a digital light display.

The pavilion showcases thousands of years of Chinese culture and technology. From ancient China’s invention of world-changing technologies such as the compass and gunpowder to the nation’s modern-day advancements in artificial intelligence, there’s no end of innovation here to explore.

The inspiration for the stately yet energetic China Pavilion takes the literal shape of a traditional Chinese lantern: a monumental central column of stacked square red blocks capped in gleaming gold, surrounded by an airy, curved outer wall patterned in a geometric Chinese window lattice motif.

The breathtaking lakes and forests of Finland are famous for their beautiful coats of pure snow, and for Expo 2020, the Scandinavian land has added its wintry colours to the Dubai desert. Blending Middle Eastern tradition with Nordic flair, the Finland Pavilion casts a white blanket of snow over a Bedouin-inspired tent, all with a warm heart within.

Inside, beyond the pavilion’s striking “snow cape”, you’ll explore a circular storyline of exhibits on Finnish values, from sustainable technologies to the welfare society. But don’t miss the serene central “gorge”, an elegantly designed refuge for peace and reflection.

The Finland Pavilion is a large cube-shaped tent designed to look like it’s coated with a blanket of snow. The structure’s outer façade is made of a white fabric that is stretched over a steel framework. The soaring triangular entryway in its centre has been perfectly cut to resemble the pulled-back flaps of an Arabian tent.

The towering, 27-metre-high structure of the Russia Pavilion is composed of a huge sphere supported instead by two large columns, one on either side. A wide, shaded courtyard nestles between them, below the main structure. 

The building gains the appearance of speed from its vibrant exterior décor: narrow bands of bright, rainbow colour, which wrap in great loops around the pavilion, suggesting a blur of motion. A raised circle reminiscent of Saturn’s rings sticks out from the centre of the sphere, completing the planetary motif.
