Combining traditional exhibits on Iranian art and crafts with an immersive array of live audio-visual feeds, the Islamic Republic of Iran Pavilion offers a real-time look into the life of Iranian citizens. The pavilion is spread across several sleekly designed “boxes”, each offering a different perspective on the nation’s ancient culture. As you explore Iran’s production of saffron (known as “red gold” for its rarity and expense) or peruse its artisan-made carpets, curated video displays will digitally transport you to real Iranian bazaars, stunning landscapes and more.

Inspired by the many tales in the classic book One Thousand and One Nights, the Islamic Republic of Iran Pavilion is a collection of 13 box-like blue buildings of various sizes, each of them housed within a curtain of hanging, bronze-coloured balls. These curtain structures surround each building on all four sides, and they are made of long strands of clay beads that part to admit visitors.

Known historically as the “Golden Land” because of its countless temples decorated in gold leaf, Myanmar is a nation of deep spiritual traditions. The Myanmar Pavilion at Expo 2020 celebrates this heritage with a quiet, meditative space that allows visitors to contemplate its thousands of years of rich culture. Here, you’ll embark on a journey of discovery through the pavilion’s narrow wooden passageways, explore five zones of culture and history, and see a variety of beautiful Burmese handcrafts, such as textiles and lacquerware.

Humble peat moss forms the basis for the wildly imaginative Latvia Pavilion, which uses the traditional Baltic crop to create carved panels, compressed blocks and textured walls that lead visitors through a series of engaging multimedia exhibits. The Northern European nation sees itself as a country of adaptable, creative problem-solvers - a place where technological innovation can coexist with a love for nature and sustainability. The pavilion embraces opposites, creating tableaus examining tumultuous history, exploring windswept seascapes and deep forests, and revealing how Latvia’s ancient traditions work within its cosmopolitan cities.

Zimbabwe is known for the thundering majesty of the Victoria Falls waterfall, and that power and energy is also evident in its people’s indomitable spirit. Designed by Zimbabwean university students, the Zimbabwe Pavilion at Expo 2020 surrounds visitors with impressive towers and stone carvings inspired by the historic Great Zimbabwe settlement. Take a virtual reality tour across Zimbabwe’s savannahs and down the mighty Zambezi River. Then learn about the country’s advances in mining, construction and agriculture, as well as the youthful, skilled workforce pushing Zimbabwe to new heights.

An ideal destination for Expo 2020’s youngest visitors, the Tonga Pavilion is a fanciful, child-friendly journey of discovery with a strong message of conservation. As you venture through the magical forests and blue waters of this Pacific Ocean gem, you’ll encounter moving flowers, talking animals and countless other wonders, as well as educational exhibits on the threat that plastic poses to sea life. Explore Tonga’s “secret islands”, meet Kaho the whale and grab a photo at the seashell wall.

Rather than bury its past, Rwanda has chosen a path of openness and healing, and at Expo 2020, you can see the transformative results in a remarkable journey that leads visitors through the dark of night to the dawn of a new day. The Rwanda Pavilion takes visitors through the nation’s full, unvarnished story, from colonial times to the 1994 genocide to the present day, in which the process of reconciliation has turned the country into a beacon of hope. Attractions include immersive exhibits on Rwandan history, a virtual-reality installation showcasing the nation’s technological advancements and a café in which to reflect on the experience.

The twisty design of the Luxembourg Pavilion is based on the Möbius strip, a unique one-sided surface with no beginning or end – just like the “circular economy” idea demonstrated inside. Known as a global banking hub, Luxembourg shows that it’s also a leader in sustainability and innovation.
The pavilion experience takes the form of a “walking movie”, with exhibits ranging from Luxembourg’s cultural diversity to its prominence in fields such as satellites and space mining. And just like a great film, the best part is at the end: a 21-metre-tall slide you can coast down into a green, woody space that evokes the country’s beautiful forests.

Inspired by the bendy Möbius strip - a unique one-sided surface with no beginning or end the Luxembourg Pavilion takes the form of an immense white ribbon that twists around on itself. On the pavilion’s right side, an elegant swoop forms a curving roof for the exhibition’s lower level, which features large windows and a decorative motif of vertical stripes.
