As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia opens itself to the world, its contribution to Expo 2020 mirrors the nation’s grand ambitions. Boasting a vast façade that covers the area of two football pitches, the Saudi Arabia Pavilion takes the form of an opening window that soars into the sky bearing messages of inspiration.

Your Saudi experience begins in the open plaza under the pavilion, where the giant screen above and LEDs below combine to create a dazzling light show. Next, the “Heritage Path” escalator will transport you to immersive exhibits – and you can end your journey with refreshments and shopping in the pavilion’s scenic palm garden.

The monumental Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion is a mirrored slab that extends up diagonally from the ground, resembling a giant window opening toward the sky. The immense structure soars six storeys into the air and covers more than 13,000 square metres, or the area of two football pitches. The sides of the pavilion feature a decorative motif of grey horizontal lines like layered metal, while its vast underbelly — which shades an enormous plaza — is mirrored and smooth.

Known historically as the “Golden Land” because of its countless temples decorated in gold leaf, Myanmar is a nation of deep spiritual traditions. The Myanmar Pavilion at Expo 2020 celebrates this heritage with a quiet, meditative space that allows visitors to contemplate its thousands of years of rich culture. Here, you’ll embark on a journey of discovery through the pavilion’s narrow wooden passageways, explore five zones of culture and history, and see a variety of beautiful Burmese handcrafts, such as textiles and lacquerware.

Humble peat moss forms the basis for the wildly imaginative Latvia Pavilion, which uses the traditional Baltic crop to create carved panels, compressed blocks and textured walls that lead visitors through a series of engaging multimedia exhibits. Sweden’s vast forests are places of magic, beauty and solitude. The Sweden Pavilion offers visitors an enchanting blend of cultures, combining a Nordic woodland-inspired experience with Middle Eastern architectural flair for a tour of the bio-circular economies and sustainable initiatives of tomorrow. The pavilion’s tree-filled design leads visitors through a variety of “clearings”, where interactive multimedia exhibits present an array of themed topics. Explore next-generation travel systems, immerse yourself in futuristic cities and relax to the authentic sounds of Sweden’s rich woodlands.

The essence of the forest inspires the Sweden Pavilion, which fuses dense Nordic woodland and Islamic geometric design in a plaza full of cozy tree house structures and hundreds of tree trunks, some as tall as 18 metres. The building’s airy ground floor is built for wandering, housing public areas, exhibitions, and cafés, while the tree house conference rooms are raised aloft, forming a roof over parts of the pavilion.

MENASA - Emirati Design Platform offers visitors an overview of the UAE’s vibrant artisan culture. Its bespoke collections are created with top local and international designers and explore seven Emirati “Craft Stories”: safeefa, clay, talli, sadu, coffee making, Gargour making and pearl diving. Each story leads you through the processes involved in crafting the design collections. The programme’s space hosts design collections to stimulate and inspire. Many of the one-of-a-kind pieces on display are also available to take home, with each purchase helping to sustain the local design ecosystem.

Aiming to identify, curate, promote and present Emirati design and crafts through exclusive design collections and curated content, MENASA provides a unique opportunity to explore traditional Emirati crafts through contemporary design, innovative materials and advanced processes. The platform features exciting design collaborations between over 40 local and international designers from 11 countries.
