The breathtaking lakes and forests of Finland are famous for their beautiful coats of pure snow, and for Expo 2020, the Scandinavian land has added its wintry colours to the Dubai desert. Blending Middle Eastern tradition with Nordic flair, the Finland Pavilion casts a white blanket of snow over a Bedouin-inspired tent, all with a warm heart within.

Inside, beyond the pavilion’s striking “snow cape”, you’ll explore a circular storyline of exhibits on Finnish values, from sustainable technologies to the welfare society. But don’t miss the serene central “gorge”, an elegantly designed refuge for peace and reflection.

The Finland Pavilion is a large cube-shaped tent designed to look like it’s coated with a blanket of snow. The structure’s outer façade is made of a white fabric that is stretched over a steel framework. The soaring triangular entryway in its centre has been perfectly cut to resemble the pulled-back flaps of an Arabian tent.

The towering, 27-metre-high structure of the Russia Pavilion is composed of a huge sphere supported instead by two large columns, one on either side. A wide, shaded courtyard nestles between them, below the main structure. 

The building gains the appearance of speed from its vibrant exterior décor: narrow bands of bright, rainbow colour, which wrap in great loops around the pavilion, suggesting a blur of motion. A raised circle reminiscent of Saturn’s rings sticks out from the centre of the sphere, completing the planetary motif.

Cameroon proudly refers to itself as “Africa in Miniature” thanks to its remarkable population consisting of more than 250 ethnic groups, speaking more than 200 languages and peacefully practising diverse religions. 
At its pavilion, discover Cameroon’s arts and culture through tall, egg-shaped clay obus huts and intricate beaded and carved ceremonial Bamileke and Bamoun masks.

Zimbabwe is known for the thundering majesty of the Victoria Falls waterfall, and that power and energy is also evident in its people’s indomitable spirit. Designed by Zimbabwean university students, the Zimbabwe Pavilion at Expo 2020 surrounds visitors with impressive towers and stone carvings inspired by the historic Great Zimbabwe settlement. Take a virtual reality tour across Zimbabwe’s savannahs and down the mighty Zambezi River. Then learn about the country’s advances in mining, construction and agriculture, as well as the youthful, skilled workforce pushing Zimbabwe to new heights.

An ideal destination for Expo 2020’s youngest visitors, the Tonga Pavilion is a fanciful, child-friendly journey of discovery with a strong message of conservation. As you venture through the magical forests and blue waters of this Pacific Ocean gem, you’ll encounter moving flowers, talking animals and countless other wonders, as well as educational exhibits on the threat that plastic poses to sea life. Rather than bury its past, Rwanda has chosen a path of openness and healing, and at Expo 2020, you can see the transformative results in a remarkable journey that leads visitors through the dark of night to the dawn of a new day. The Rwanda Pavilion takes visitors through the nation’s full, unvarnished story, from colonial times to the 1994 genocide to the present day, in which the process of reconciliation has turned the country into a beacon of hope. Attractions include immersive exhibits on Rwandan history, a virtual-reality installation showcasing the nation’s technological advancements and a café in which to reflect on the experience.

The Whanganui River is so important to New Zealand’s Maori people that in 2017, it was granted a special legal identity, giving it the rights of a citizen. Now, the New Zealand Pavilion offers a sweeping cultural tour narrated by the Whanganui River itself.

With a design inspired by the Maori tradition of hand-crafting containers to safeguard items of value, the pavilion leads you on a journey of conservation where the greatest treasure to be protected is our natural world. Immerse yourself in the river’s story, deepen the experience with the pavilion’s web-based app, and journey through a 10-metre-high “vertical river” of water droplets.


New Zealand

The New Zealand Pavilion features a tall box clad in titanic wavy panels of chainmail-like architectural mesh called Kaynemaile. Its flexible façade pulses to evoke a living building and sits on a base crafted from New Zealand Abodo eco-timber. The ground floor’s wooden exterior lends a warm feel to the modernist design, welcoming visitors through a small gap beneath the mammoth Kaynemaile panels.
