Expo 2020 Dubai: Address biases against women to create lasting empowerment, say leaders

The event will shine the spotlight on women’s careers and the motherhood penalty in the 21st century, their challenges and formidable contributions to society, as well as showcasing male and female leaders who are putting in place family-friendly policies to encourage more equitable burden-sharing of childcare by both parents. The event features photographs from the Emirati Dad Exhibition. Hosted by the Delegation of the European Union in Abu Dhabi, this is held in partnership with the Italian, Slovenian, Spanish and Swedish Embassy, as well as UN Women and Expo 2020's Women’s Pavilion. The programme highlights the impact women have made on society and shines a light on their often forgotten contributions. By shifting perspectives, we embrace the infinite approaches to a more balanced world.

A common vision for a unique collaboration; sustainable development goals and aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous world cannot be achieved without gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Sharing this vision, Expo 2020 Dubai and Cartier celebrate women changemakers around the globe, asserting our conviction that innovative collaboration between the private sector, civil society and committed individuals is the pathway to meaningful change.

Sometimes solutions to modern challenges come from something as old as dirt – literally. The innovative, heat-regulating Austria Pavilion is constructed entirely from humankind’s oldest building material: loam, a soil of sand and clay. The dozens of cones that make up the pavilion use thermodynamics to pull in cool air from below and push warm air out the top, providing a natural climate-control mechanism. Their elegant blend of simplicity and ingenuity makes the pavilion both a calming oasis and a perfect place to explore innovations such as the heartbeat installation, which transforms your heart pattern into a dynamic digital projection.
