This dynamic presentation will feature the work of 15 female Seychellois artists and include live spoken narrative, still and moving images, and sounds.
A celebration of the contribution made by women to national development over the past 250 years, the event will be structured through a series of chapters: ARCHITECTS will explore women’s contribution to the creation of societal structures; CREATIVES will present aspects of the creative processes, concepts and practices of female artists in Seychelles; INFLUENCERS will focus on the manner in which tradition and history inform the creation of contemporary artworks by women; LEADERS will recognise the key positions held by women in the Seychelles; MOTHERS will examine aspects of the role of the mother within family and society; DIFFERENT AND EQUAL will place women’s creativity within the context of their male peers in the Seychelles; STRONG AND SUCCESSFUL will refer to the power of Seychellois women to overcome challenges; AUTHENTIC will focus upon the integrity and authenticity of art work made by Seychellois women and its reference to past and tested values.
The presentation will be made by Christine Chetty Payet, co-curator of the exhibition of Seychellois women’s work which will be held in the National Pavilion and will drive this dynamic event.
